This is my very first hair video that I am willing to share with the world. I was initially so nervous that I started psyching myself out. There are a few people out there who can be so cruel and critical. I had to get focused and think about how my efforts can go towards helping others even when they are difficult for me to pursue.
Entry #1: Three hours
March 20, 2009The weekly ritual of washing my hair has come around. I sit in my room, thinking about what to do this time. I can straighten it, but I have to take the weather into account. That may read as impulsive, but weather in the Midwest is not made for black women who do not chemically treat their hair. I procrastinate and dread the final decision. I wanted to curl my hair, but I wanted to make the curls smaller so that the style would last longer.
Brief side note: At this point in time, I finger-combed my hair for three weeks.
I washed and conditioned my hair like every other week. I stepped out of the shower ready to tackle the task that was in front of me. I grabbed my carrot oil, lock gel, rat-tailed combed and made myself comfortable on the futon. I only used the comb to part my hair into parallel sections. I untangled the knots with my fingers.
Here is a picture after I loosened the bantu knots:
